Equalizer Option
An equalizer payment plan is available to gas customers who have lived in their residence for one year or more. During the summer you pay more than your actual bills to build a credit to use during the colder winter months. The plan starts in May of each year. An amount is calculated based on the previous 12 months usage and projected rates for the coming year. It is an estimated amount.
If usage is more than predicted, if rates are higher than expected, or if you do not make your payments as agreed, your equalizer payments may not cover your bills through the entire winter. If your actual bill is more than your equalizer payment, then you must pay the actual amount of the bill.
Any credit that remains at the end of the equalizer year is used to reduce next year’s amount. No refunds are issued; if you choose to go off the equalizer payment plan, you may use up any credit at any time.
Calls are accepted in March, April and May to have your account calculated for an equalizer amount. If you are on the plan, you do not need to call. We will re-calculate your amount automatically. A letter is sent to all equalizer customer with the May 1st bill (mailed May 15th). If you choose to go on the plan, start paying with the May bill which is due May 31st. If you choose NOT to go on the plan, just pay the actual bill amount as usual.
